I’m lucky. I didn’t know Grief for my first 40 years. But then Grief showed up on many occasions in a short period of time and forced its way into my life. My dad passed away shortly after a tragic accident that left him a quadriplegic. His death was then followed by my mother-in-law’s sudden passing and then by my beloved grandma’s transition. Though we cannot control many of the circumstances that happen in our lives, we can always control our reactions to them. That was one of my big take-aways from this experience.
After my dad passed, I visited a healer in Austin, TX to help me process my grief and release my trapped emotions around that trauma. Though I do this work with my clients, I was too close to the feelings this time and it was my turn to be the client. It was a powerful session. I laid face down on her table with my hands in certain positions to stimulate emotion release points while she tapped up and down my spine. She identified the energies of abandonment, failure, and heartache trapped within me and worked to release them.
Tears were streaming out of me during this process. I was feeling it all. After a few minutes she asked me to turn over and when she saw that I was still actively sobbing, she said, “Flip back over. You’re not done yet.” I flipped over and, between sobs, asked her how I would know when I was done. She told me “you’ll just know” and continued tapping along my spine. And then….suddenly ….the tears stopped and I felt a sense of calm. And she was right …. I just knew.
“It’s remarkable that emotions can have such a tremendous impact on our mind and body, yet they exist in a form that we cannot perceive with the human eye.”
Even though emotions are invisible, we have all felt their power. It’s remarkable that emotions can have such a tremendous impact on our mind and body, yet they exist in a form that we cannot perceive with the human eye. So what exactly happened in my body from one moment to the next when I suddenly went from sobbing to calm?
To understand this, you have to understand what an “emotion” really is. An emotion is simply energy. Actually, it’s energy in motion. That’s why it’s called e-motion. A trapped negative emotion is literally a ball of energy the size of an orange (sometimes as big as a melon!) that lodges itself somewhere in the body. At the time the emotion was felt, the body either did not or could not fully process the emotion and therefore had to put it somewhere, resulting in a blockage somewhere in the energy system.
Why wouldn’t the body fully process an emotion when it is first felt? It’s actually a coping mechanism. If a trauma is too great or an emotion is too much (too stressful) for the body to handle at the time, the emotion is repressed for later processing when there is more capacity to handle stress. However, in today’s chronically stressed society, that time often never comes. And yet, it’s not good to allow these repressed emotions to remain repressed because they create energy blocks that, if left unchecked, can progress to physical symptoms and manifestations.
“Each emotion has its own unique vibration.”
Each emotion has its own unique vibration, with love and gratitude being at the high end and fear and shame being among the lower vibrations. When a negative emotion is trapped the body, the vibration of that emotional energy is constantly present and lowers the overall vibration of the person. These trapped emotions can create various emotional disturbances and a myriad of health problems, including pain.
There are several energy healing techniques that focus on releasing trapped emotional energies from the body. When doing this work with clients, I use modalities such as Emotion Code®, Touch for Health®, and EFT/Tapping. By releasing these stuck emotions, we help bring the body’s energies back into balance and activate the body’s self-healing mechanisms.
Releasing trapped emotions is one of the focuses of my 3 month small group coaching intensive – the PEM Wellness Program™. PEM stands for Physical, Emotional, and Mental and we will spend an entire month focusing on each aspect of our health. If you feel blocked by grief, anger, fear, or overwhelm, consider registering for my next PEM Wellness small group which starts on April 11, 2022.
